Information from Anne Corlett.
The annual Glasgow vs Edinburgh University Boat Race has been running for a number of years and will take place on Friday, 24th of May on the Clyde. This event, comprising Men's and Women's 1st Eight races, is always closely contested, with the capriciousness of conditions on the river often negating any prophecised advantage for either crew. In recent years the honours of gone to Glasgow, but last year's men's race saw Edinburgh putting a conclusive end to a five year run of Glasgow victories. This year promises an exciting pair of races, taking current form into consideration. At the recent Scottish University Championships the EUBC men's eight took second place, narrowly beating Glasgow, while the Edinburgh women's eight won their event by nine lengths. The women's eight went on to take bronze at BUSA with their 1st 4 winning Championship 4's by 10 seconds. It is difficult, however to make predictions about this event since it has in the past produced surprising results, particularly with Glasgow's tendency to peak for the Boat Race. The racing begins at 3.15 pm at the St Enoch Centre, with the women's race 20 minutes later. Support for this event would be appreciated by the crews and their clubs since it is hoped to make the Boat Race into a bigger event through sponsorship and publicity, as in previous years.
